Question:

Does KBB "new car blue book value" include tax, title, license fees?

When buying my car, I assumed that the "new car blue book value (what consumers are really paying for this vehicle)" was the cost before tax, title, and license fees, so I thought I was getting a pretty good deal. Now, however, I keep agonizing over the fact that I got a pretty bad deal if the KBB value does include TTL. Does anyone know what the KBB value does and does not include?

Thanks!

  1. KBB does not include TTL because these are fees that the state charges you, not the car manufacturer.

The blue book value is the price of the car only.

Everyone pays these fees and every jurisdiction has a different fee schedule.  It would be impossible for KBB to list them all.

Your 'deal" did not change. You would have had to pay the same fees, regardless of which car you purchased or how much you negotiated on price for the car.

Think about it, when you see a stereo advertised in the Best Buy flyer they don't include thesales tax in the price they only list the cost of the item. What you pay at the register is always more.

  2. If you are referring to the price they listed as what everyone else is paying for the vehicle, I believe it's the price before taxes and all other fees.  I think that's the price including the destination charge since that part is not negotiatble, but I could be wrong.

  3. KBB lists the market price of the vehicle itself, not the cost of title, license fees, etc.  Taxes vary by state anyway.

  4. It doesn't include any fees that you incur when you purchase a car. It would be too difficult for them to keep up on tax title and licensing fee's.
