Question:

Does Kennett have the right to suggest Demons move North?

To my knowledge I've not heard a President of a footy club be so blunt and suggestive about another clubs business?

Isnt this a little forward?

Shouldnt he be only concerning himself with Hawks business affairs?

Just curious what you guys think on the matter..

  1. Dunno, good question though, but could be for lot's of reason, the AFL i'd suggest will probably announce the matter and their concerns through the season, i'll give you a thumbs up, as i said great question, sorry i couldnt quite help but yeah it does concern me. GO $W@NN!E$

  2. for 1. They are not Melbourne Demons They are Melbourne fc

and for 2. He never suggested it.

I use my common sense while you need to upgrade your brain skills

  3. The Demons are living on AFL handouts with the support of the other clubs - of course Kennet is entitled to voice his opinion.

At the same event when asked to comment Andrew Demetriou repeated the AFL line supporting 16 clubs but asked 'how long will the clubs accept mediocrity?'

Reality is Melbourne cant attract enough members, cant attract enough sponsors, and not enough people go to their games.

  4. he should have kept it to himself, Kennett's got to remember that hawthorn weren't travelling that well before he got there and then wen he did, to get some extra cash hawthorn now plays some home games in tassie.

also just after he started with the club he said last year that the bulldogs need to merge, look at us now, were going alright. i hope Melbourne flog hawthorn tomorrow, and long term, Kennett eats his words.

unless you are a part of the club and know wats going on behind closed doors you have no right to come out publicly like that.

  5. Jeff's always been opinionated.

This one's a classic foot in mouth that he has done.

Unsure if there has been a response from any of the Demon's leaders, Paul McNamee, Diamond Joe etc.

Remember, Jeff wanted to make Victoria the leading state.  He got all these events, built up Southbank, did remarkable things, but forgot about the rural voters.  They replied by throwing him out of office.

    Silly Jeff.

  6. Yes.

Of course he can make such suggestions. He's been used to spruiking off in public for years - he's not going to stop now.

I  hear that he has been approached to become a regular on the Footy Show. Plus they are going to employ a full-time lawyer just to represent Sammy!

  7. Jeff Kennett should keep his thoughts on the matter to himself. He still thinks he's the premier in a lot of ways - always giving his opinion on things that are really none of his business. I'm also sure that a lot of his ideas are selfish. He knows that the fewer clubs that remain in Melbourne, the bigger the slice of the pie he will get. I'm sure he was equally happy that Nth Melb seemed to be headed to the Gold Coast last year, and that seemed to be happening all on it's own without his help - until it fell through. Now he has turned his sights on Melbourne.

You are right, no other president would come out with public statements like this. Presidents should look after their own clubs and not plot the downfall of others. What he is doing is undermining confidence of Melbourne's future and keeping the idea on the agenda in the hope that it will come true. He's manipulating the public and the AFL.

Given the near destruction of his own beloved Hawks in the 90's, he should be more supportive and sensitive to struggling clubs. If the same things were being said about the Hawks right now, you can bet that he wouldn't be singing the same tune.

He's just selfish and dispassionate. Apart from his own team (and maybe even them too), he just sees football as a bunch of corporations to slash, burn, merge or sell off - just like when he was privatising Victoria as Premier.

  8. Yes.

If more people with a bit if clout did the same thing maybe we'd get rid of a a couple of these Melbourne based clubs. They are a drain on the competition. Just look at where most of them are on the ladder.

  9. Kennett should shut his big mouth

we will get done today because the Ds

    will be fired up

  10. I feel, yes, he does have the right to suggest this...

BUT clearly he's talking rubbish. I mean, what if Hawthorn were sitting 15th-16th on the ladder this season.... would he be suggesting that his club should move up to the Gold Coast?!!!

    Just a really stupid comment!

(I'm a Saints supporter btw  ..point here is it's not like I'm 'defending my own club' or anything)

I think that the 10 Victorian clubs should stay exactly where they are and I think it's great that new clubs are being 'added' to the AFL... hopefully AFL/Aussie Rules gains more popularity in NSW and QLD.

  11. It's not like anyone will take notice anyway.

It was a stupid idea for any team to move North, and just because Melbourne is down and out this year is no reason to move in on them.

Kennett should shut up and enjoy how good his team is going, finally.

  12. Jeff Kennett has a right to express that view ... As a Demons supporter .. I have a right to disagree....

Jeff Kennett  has always said what he thought ..not a bad thing as such .. but we don't have to agree with him.

There was a time when the Dees and the Hawkes NEARLY merged ...( we would have been the Dawkes ) ... what's worse .. merging, moving or folding ..... ?

the Dees are in trouble .. but being one of the founding teams I don't think they should ever leave melbourne ( wonder could they be heritage listed????) .. but something has to be done.. THAT might have been more the point Jeff was making

  13. i can sum up everyone's comments

kennett was an arrogant idiot as premier

and he is an arrogant idiot as hawthorn president

  14. Kennett needs to look at hawthorn they have won eleven wooden spoons since they have been in the comp, every team has their down years.

  15. Yeah he has the right to say what he like but does anyone care what he Say's? ,He was a tool when he was our rubbish Premier and he hasn't changed so take what Jeff Say's with a grain of salt.

  16. In a word, No!

And don't be too hard on the "year 5 boy"..... after all, he may NOT know how to click on or read from that link you posted for him! He is just a BOY after all....

  17. no he is just the Hawks prez

Melbourne will rattle the Hawsks cage
