I'm doing a Science project on the element Krypton. Does that have anything to do with Kryptonite (you know, from batman)?

  1. umm polka..kryptonite actually was the elemental nemesis of superman. It was in the comic book and show  fragments of his planet of origin that exploded..This "element"" was lethal to superman by sapping his strength..There is no real kryptonite  ...

  3. from batman? dont u mean superman, duh

  4. 1st of all, kryptonite is from superman, not batman. as the story goes, kryptonite is radioactive pieces of krypton; the destroyed planet superman is from. (i'd bet your science teacher would get a good laugh out of that, though)

  5. yeah duh

  6. Kryptonite is imaginary. It is named for the planet Krypton (from Superman comics) where it came from. Based on the name, in chemistry, Kryptonite would be an oxygenation of the element krypton. Krypton is a noble gas, unfortunately, and does not easily form compounds.

  7. Actually, kryptonite is from Superman, not Batman. The kryptonite in Superman doesn't really exist, although a mineral was recently discovered with the same colours as the fictional kryptonite, and it was named kryptonite for this reason. This mineral contains no krypton. Noble gases are not found in minerals.

The only link is the name. The name "krypton" comes from a Greek word which means "hidden", which was also the inspiration for the name Krypton for the planet that Superman was born on, which in turn gave its name to the fictional mineral kryptonite, which gave its name to the real mineral kryptonite.
