Does LED qualified for general lighting? is it suitable for office lighting?

LED are now a suitable choice for office lighting. There have been some great advances in LED lighting that make them a better (and more eco friendly) choice for lighting an office.

Advantages to LED office lighting:

1. There is no buzzing (often found in other office lighting)

2. No flickering

3. Long life bulbs contain no mercury to contaminate the environment

4. Can last up 20 x longer than incandescent bulbs and 2 x as long as fluorescent bulbs

Disadvantages:

1. Very heat sensitive. Excessive heat or inappropriate applications dramatically reduce both light output and lifespan

2. LEDs typically cast light in one direction at a narrow angle compared to incandescent or fluorescent lamps so lenses or reflectors are needed in fixtures to broaden the beam  (however, most office lighting fixtures have compensated for this inadequacy)

3. Costs for placing LEDs are more expensive than regular incandescent or fluorescent lamps (however LED will save you money in the long run)
