Does Linux have it's own security, or do you have to pay for a product?

I'm thinking about making a switch to Linux, but before I do, will I have to buy a security product? Or doe Linux have it's own security?

  1. Linux is  only safe because as of right now only a very small percentage of people are using Linux and the people who right out malicious script codes for Viruses are not targeting Linux they are targeting Windows but the day will come when Linux will see their share of attacks as well.


  2. Linux has no viruses, none made...

    Even if they were made, you would need to give your password to the virus because it can't get it itself unless it has your password.

  3. Linux is more secure by the very design of it. It is also much much less likely to get infected by anything. The last I read on the subject there were only about a hundred viruses known to be able to infect Linux and most of those were not "in the wild". The Linux community will very quickly become aware of any security vulnerabilities and get them fixed. Linux is kept up to date via automatic updates. It is a very very secure platform.

    No. You will not have to purchase any additional security software.

    It's tongue-in-cheek but does explain why viruses are not the threat to Linux like they are to other OS'es.
