Palin has completely opposing beliefs as Hillary. Does McCain think that women that wanted Hillary (a democratic senator of new york) to win will vote for him now because he picked a conservative woman from Alaska as VP?

  1. yeah, i think mccain is using her as a pawn to attract female voters. i dont think he got much out of her in just 1 meeting. that a big gut feeling to just  pick someone over 1 meeting.

  2. well, some women were voting for Hillary because she is a women just like some blacks are voting for Obama because he is black, so yes, Palin will attract those, but I don't believe that was the reason for picking her,, no she is a maverick just like McCain.

  3. Its an insult to intelligent women. Like a social conservative, pro-life creationist politically inexperienced woman from AK is a substitute for Clinton. Liberal women are not shallow......But I agree with the first poster, the choice of Palin was more about bringing the social conservatives back into the flock than it was about attracting women voters.

  4. No...it is not all about Hillary voters, the Universe does not revolve around them...and I was one...

  5. it is about securing fundamentalist votes, not hillary voters

mccain feels that fundamentalists will be more reliable on election day than disgruntled hillary supporters.

she is a pro-life creationist - the perfect fundamentalist candidate. The only wemon he is trying to appeal to are the fundamentalist ones who were not voting for hillary anyway.

  6. Doubtful. I think this was a last minute decision, in light of Obama's success at uniting the party. It was also a jab at Obama. He also needed to stir things up, while maintaining his base. True die hard Democrats would NEVER vote for Palin because she does not represent what they stand for, or believe in.

  7. I completely agree with you. McCain thinks that all Hillary supports hate Obama, which is completely false. If Hillary had not run this year, McCain would have pick Mitt Romney of some other old white male. I don't think that McCain is going to get as big as bump as he thinks hes going to get from this pick, maybe one or two percent, but, as we saw in the 2000 election, percentages dont matter, you have to win over individual states to be able to win the presidential election, and I don't think a whole state is going to go "red" because of this pick, besides maybe Alaska and all of its 3 electoral college votes.

  8. yes

  9. Yes, he DOES think that. Should come as no surprise, he's always been sexist.

  10. Yes, apparently he does believe that.

The McCain campaign spokespeople are claiming that it is to the religious right that he will need to win, but if that was the case he would have selected Huckabee.  There is a clear unspoken agenda to pull in Clinton supporters with the Palin pick.

In my opinion, it is very poor judgment because he will be lucky to get 5,000 Clinton supporters nationwide with that VP and is likely to lose many more independents that are worried about Palin possibly having to take over for McCain when she has no foreign policy experience and only less than 2 years experience as governor of Alaska.

  11. They obviously think so.  We'll see if they're right.  If they are, I hope they make Abortion illegal and all these silly women who voted Republican just because there's a woman in the second slot will be good and sorry then.

  12. No but the fence leaners will come over. He needs 5% of Hillary supporters.
