Does Meryl Streep speak Polish?

Question

I haven't actually seen the film Sophie's Choice, but I have read that not only did Meryl adopt a Polish accent for the film, but in fact learnt the Polish language itself. I'm just curious to see whether this is true, because I'm quite interested in multilingual actors!

I love Meryl Streep but to be honest her Polish is not that good in the film. I am Polish myself so I know :) But it is a very difficult language so no wonder.

Meryl Streep learned to speak Polish for Sophie's Choice.

She spoke the language extremely well and won an Academy Award for her part in the movie.
