Question:

Does Michelle Wie think there's a set of rules for her and a set of rules for everyone else?

Hats off to the LPGA for sticking to their guns and DQ'ing little Michelle. She keeps asking to learn the hard way, and I applaud the LPGA for granting her wish.

  1. It's just a technicality.  The tourney director Sue Witters just wants attention.

She was extremely unprofessional saying that Wie was like a kid.  Everyone knew the score.

Whether Wie deserved getting DQ'd or not, the LPGA director is unprofessional.

  2. She's a hack player and has no business being as popular as she is.

She's tall, asian, and beautiful.  In her case, her ability to play golf is definitely a secondary consideration.

  3. Ithink the L.P.G.A. was out of line... Why go get her to sign the card, if it was already too late???

  4. I'm going to have to go ahead and "disagree" with you on that one.

  5. she's just a stupid brat she's not even that good.

  6. Get off the kid's  back.  You're a real tough guy, beating up on an 18 year old kid.  As if she purposely failed to sign the scorecard, right.

  7. if all you have to worry about is womens golf, you live a charmed life.

  8. Its kind of sad that you are actually happy to see this.  Yes she got exemptions and all but if it were yourself I would like to see you turn down exemptions.

I'm more than positive you wouldnt be asking this question or your "hats off" if it were someone else.

Whether or not you agree with the way she got into tournaments(meaning not qualifying) you cant deny that she was good for golf, just the way danica was good for racing.  It's a shame her career was severely hurt before she could mature(I blame a lot on Pops)

But its snarky questions and comments like you presented that just demonstrate your lower  value.

I havent read one single quote that makes her t hink she's better than anyone else.

  9. I don't know too much about golf but she may have been distracted and made a simple mistake, but she made a mistake none the less and the rules cant be bent because then everyone will start contesting penalties, etc.  She learned a good lesson for sure though, I'm sure that she'll never make that mistake again.

  10. She made a mistake;plain and simple. You would have cried a river if it was Morgan Pressel or Natalie Gulbis.

  11. Well she obviously made a mistake, she was in second place I doubt this was a time when she would deliberately test the rules (millions of dollars in endorsments are on the line.)  I agree that the LPGA did the right thing, rules are rules (although in my opinion this rule is a bit silly, with all of our technology why are players still keeping score, it's not like major league managers are in dugouts with their scorebooks telling the umpires the score after each inning as if it was a little league game)  and if she broke the rule then she has to be DQ'd.  I think it is a bummer that Michelle was finally playing some solid golf and was DQ'd but I'm sure she will bounce back, lets remember she is still a teen so she has plenty of time.

  12. I think her career could possibly be finished. She's proved that she is not the golfer everyone thought she'd be. There are many things that have put her career in a downward spiral, and the plane has just crashed.

  13. Given that this is about the sixth time she has either been disqualified or penalized for a rules violation, I can't feel sorry for her.

She seems completely unable to grasp the concept of "rules".  In her very first tournament as a pro she was disqualified for a rules violation and when reporters ask her afterwards whether or not she was going to read the rulebook she had the audacity to answer "No".

About 6 DQs later, this is what she gets.

In summary, she really doesn't seem very bright to me and I also believe that on some subconscious level she doesn't want to win - either because she is pissed at her parents, doesn't want the pressure and expecation, or something.

  14. She made a mistake. I seriously doubt that she said,'I know it's illegal for me to leave this particular area without signing my card, but I'm Michelle Wie, d**n it, and I'm going to do it anyway."

Yes the LPGA was right in disqualifying her, but not because it was her specifically. It would have done the same thing for any golfer, regardless of who they were.

What I think is really stupid is that a player is even able to leave the tent witout signing in the first p[lace. I've worked a coupls PGA tournaments, and the players are normally escorted to the tent immediately after finishing. While Wie certainly has to be held accountable for the fact that she signed her card late, I have to wonder why soneone does not make sure that EVERY player has signed their card before they are put in that position. NObody ever wants to see anyone get DQ'ed for something as trivial as this, and the LPGA should really look hard at it's policies to try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

(And to be honest - in today's day and age, I find it hard to believe the the pro tours have not completely gotten rid of the scorecards kept by players. There are officials walking with thtem anyway - why can't they just keep the score? I can't thonk of any other sport where a player keeps the score rather then some sort of official.)

I also have to question the LPGA as to why it took until after Wie had played her 3rd round to DQ her for not signing her 2nd round card in due time. Seems to me like they should have DQ'ed her the minute she left the area, and told her immediately. But, maybe they were worried about attendance and TV ratings if the one that they have worked so hard as promoting as the female equivalent of Tiger Woods, that they figured they better keep her around anouther day.

They were right to DQ her, but wrong in the fact that it took them a whole day to do it.

  15. She is YOUNG, probably spoiled by her over bearing parents and probably excited that she was playing well.

Your are correct on one thing, the LPGA had no other choice and DID do the right thing.
