Does Mickey mouse have spherical ears?

From a frontal view the ears are large and round and beside each other. However, when he turns his head, the ears still appear to be round, only now one is slightly in front of the other.

What's going on?

  1. the ears are not spherical. they are rounded but not spherical.  go to the disney store and check it out.

  2. Yes, you're right, they do look spherical - I'd never thought about it but looking at various images of him on the web, it's true. Maybe the original animators decided to draw them like that because it was easier to keep drawing circles in every picture? Wikipedia says 'In the 40's, he changed once more in The Little Whirlwind, where he used his trademark pants for the last time in decades, lost his tail, got more realistic ears that changed with perspective and a different body anatomy. But this change would only last for a short period of time before returning to the one in The Pointer, with the exception of his pants.'
