  1. It totally depends on what your needs are. If you just need a basic word processor type software (e.g.), don't work with complicated spreadsheets, don't work with major databases, don't have a need for creating nice charts (for like a briefing), and don't need an email program, then you don't need Office. There's a huge price difference between the two suites and there's a reason for that -- a lot more is available for the punch in Office. Works is like a very, very basic word processor/ spreadsheet/ database software suite. Personally I prefer Office. My Dell came with Works and I removed it and added Office.

  2. Works is the cheaper version.  It has less overall functionality than office.  If the main thing you need, is just a plain word processor, works is fine for that.  If you need / want robust capabilities, office is the way to go.

I'd agree with the first answerer.  If there's specific programs in the Microsoft office sweet, you need, get it.  If that's not the case, I'd rather use Open office than Works.  Open office is compatible with MS office files, and much more robust than MS Works.  It's also free, so it's worth every penny.

  3. Microsoft works is an older program, and office is newer....you can do more things in office and its also more "up-to-date" with todays computer standards...i personally prefer office

  4. No, it's basically c**p.

Get OpenOffice, it's a freeware app very similar to Office.
