I want to know if Microsoft has the power to do such a thing where they can make their OS invulnerable but at the same time compatible with the softwares that are used. Is this possible? If then maybe we can all make suggestions to Microsoft, although we would be copying Mac, it would get Microsoft lots of attention because as I have learned 90% of peoople use the Windows OS because of its ease of use and because it doesnt have software compatibility problems like Mac. But is this possible? If anyone from Microsoft sees this please think about it. It will be a breakthrough in History of OS's

  1. Macs can be infected by viruses and spyware just as widows can! I wish people would stop trying to show their e-peen if they have a mac. CONGRATS! you paid twice the price for a system that a half price one could do the same thing! yay for you! The only reason why macs didn't get much attention from hackers previously is because less people used them. Now that they are more popular they are just as likely as a PC to get hacked

  2. You are getting a lot of information in the answer that is unrelated to your question such as the value of Mac computers. Spec sheets can't tell you the value of a computer. I don't think there is any $500 new laptop available that is the same quality as a MacBook at $1000. This idea that people are paying double price for a Mac is ridiculous. If it were true, ten minutes of use would convince them that they paid too much and the number of Mac users would be steadily decreasing.

Macs are not as susceptible to viruses and other malware as Windows computers. There was a highly publicized news story a couple of months ago about a guy who hacked into a Mac faster than other guys could hack into a Windows computer. Not exactly a direct comparison. It only proves he was a great hacker. It doesn't prove anything about the difference in hackability of Windows compared with Mac.

People do not use Windows because of ease of use. Macs are much easier to use and to maintain and troubleshoot. They use Windows because either they are familiar with it and they don't want to spend the time learning a new system, they want to use what "most people use" or they need a larger number of games to be available.

Mac doesn't have software compatibility problems. Some software works on Windows, other software works on Mac. To say one is incompatible is like saying Mercedes is incompatible because it can't use Chevy exhaust pipes.

Microsoft could do quite a lot to reduce the susceptibility of Windows to viruses and other attacks. That type of research and development costs a lot of money so not much will happen. In fact, Windows Vista is less susceptible to attacks than Windows 98 but at the cost of annoying security messages and "click here, click there" routines related to the security.

The basic UNIX foundation of Mac OS X puts it far beyond Windows for security. If Microsoft would change their operating system to a UNIX base like Mac and Linux, it would greatly improve security. But if they did that, they would be playing catch up to Apple and Apple is many years ahead in the game now.
