Does Microsoft office update itself?

I bought Norton Antivirus 2004 but with the free updates it's the same as Norton Antivirus 2008, so if I have Microsoft office 2000 can I update it for free to get the same as the 2008 version

No. Only the actual product you buy will update with microsoft update. Each Microsoft version of Office is considered a different product.

Norton 2004 is NOT the same as 2008 ! And Microsoft Office 2000 is alot different than 2008. The latest office is 2007.

BTW, Norton's "free" updates are only good for 12 months after you install it.
