I am wondering if Clamato juice actually contains any real clam meat or is it simply a concentrate or artificial flavor? The bottle says: "clam broth" is an ingredient but I was told that doesn't mean it's real clam.

  1. clam broth comes from real clams

  2. It is reconstituted clam broth. Whether or not there is ground up clams or not I would think only Motts knows. To make broths all you have to do is boil something in water....and it is just the water with the flavor in it.

  3. It's mostly tomato juice but, yes, it has real clam juice in it too.

  4. Clam broth is added to tomato juice. Clam Broth is made when you take a bunch of clams and boil them in a pot of water. The boiling removes the oil from the clam and it mixes with the water. Think of it like a clam tea. Anyway that then is added to the tomato juice so yes it is real clams. This recipe has been around since the lat1800's. There use to be a restaruant called clam broth house in NJ that used to serve just the clam broth. Trust me it's not that bad
