Does My Hamster Have Wet Tail?

Recently we have been moving and my hamster got dust in his eye. His eye was closed for a couple of days and I was treating him by wiping it with a warm cloth and putting a tiny bit of bacitracine on it. a couple of days ago it healed but he wasnt eating so I started to add two drops of LM Animal Farms Daily Liquid Multi-Vitamins For Hamsters and Gerbils in his water every other day. I did some research and they said that if your hamster has wet tail he loses his appetite and gets dehydrated and walks funny. Thats not the case my hamster still doesnt eat but is drinking a lot of water and is acting his normal self. The only problem is his tail looks wet and there is some waste by his anal. I only gave him the vitamins for two days. Does he have wet tail? If so what can I do to help him before it turns fatal? I just noticed this today is it too late?

  1. This sounds like wet tail, you should get him to a vet as soon as possible

  2. What kind of hamster is it?

Only Syrians are affected by wet tail.

If its a dwarf, then it could just be diarrhea, in that case just make sure it's hydrated.

If you're really concerned about it, you can always call up your vet and ask.

  3. There is a possibility that your hamster has wet tail. You should take  him to the vet immediately! It is not to late if you take him to the vet today. Your vet will prescribe him some antibiotics and your hamster will be fine in no time! But you should clean his cage out thoroughly and disinfect everything with a hamster friendly disinfectant.

    Hope this helps! :)

  4. wow my hamster has almost the same problem its been 7 days and she has a wet bottom and anal area is wet but she drinks tons but her coat is kinda nasty and she stinky lol im not sure what to do i have a 14 day warranty on her but...i really liked her =[ i dunno wat to do ima wait till 2moro and check...http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... help!

  5. Don't buy any store antibiotics for Wet tail, just go to the Vet and get them to fix it, my Hamster died of Wet tail, its really sad, they just lose there movement and lie down and die.

Take it to the Vet, and if you are feeding it any vegetables stop immediately and give her some whole grain bread and regular food, because the veggies can cause diarrhea and wet tail.

Take her to the vet tomorrow if it doesn't get better today from giving her dry foods, and stopping giving the the Vitamins.

  6. The fact that he is not eating is likely the contributor to the wet p**p. If he's not eating any solids, his p**p will not be solid. If he has none of the other symptoms, I don't think it's wet tail.. I may be wrong, since I'm not a vet. However, the not eating is a problem, and you should still take him into a vet to find out what the problem really is, whether it is wet tail or not. Good luck.
