Question:

Does NTSC tuner mean it's digital ready?

I understand that if a TV has an ATSC or QAM tuner, it's considered digital. If my TV has a NTSC tuner, will it still work properly after February 2009, once everyone "goes digital"?

  1. NTSC is the old analog system that is going away.  So, if you are getting your TV Over The Air via an antenna, an NTSC tuner will not have any full power signals to use after February 17, 2009 unless you add a converter box.  An NTSC tuner will still be useful if you have analog cable or use the analog outputs of s satellite receiver.

ATSC is the new digital Over The Air standard.

QAM is the new digital Cable standard.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
