Does New York University have a good archaeology/anthropology program?

  2. Generally speaking, YES. However, the most important thing in choosing an anthropology program is finding one that has faculty members who are interested in the same kinds of things as you. That is way more important than general rankings of schools or even departments....way, way, WAY more important!

    If you know what you want to eventually specialize in (such as Mayan archaeology, or Iron Age archaeology of east Africa), your priority should be finding a department with faculty who do work in that area!  If you just know you want to do archaeology, but don't really know what you want to specialize in, NYU would be a good choice because they have several archaeologists with somewhat diverse interests, as well as good facilities for teaching anthropological archaeology. Though, if you know you want to do historical archaeology find somewhere else (as their focus is primarily prehistoric archaeology).
