Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised to hear that it doesnt. I used to live in NS, and dentists there are free for kids up to the age of 10!

  1. The only dental insurance that OHIP will cover is emergency, such as a car accident or surgical removal of wisdom teeth.

OHIP does not cover basic dental.

  2. No. OHIP is only for medical things like regular doctors or hospitals. Dentists and glasses are covered by private insurance or you have to pay cash.

  3. The OHIP card does not provide any insurance against the dentist. Most assurances (like manulife finacial, etc...) cover the cost of the dentist.

  4. OHIP does not cover dental services, only medical services.  However some dental surgery, including fractures or medically necessary jaw reconstruction, when done in hospital, is covered by OHIP.

There are free dental programs in some Ontario cities provided for low income families, and seniors. Residents would have to search their city's health website.  Also, look up for "Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT)".

Here in Toronto, free dental services are available, and for more information visit:  http://www.toronto.ca/health/dental/inde...   This is what you may expect to find in other Ontario city's health websites.
