Question:

Does Obama's chance of winning have anything to do with the new generation that's voting?

I think Obama has a better chance of winning because many children of baby boomers are in their early 20s and can now vote. Baby boomers, who reached adulthood in the late 60s, were very liberal so it would make sense that their children would also be liberal.

The post-baby boomer generation (Gen. X) reached adulthood in the 80s so their influence on the 3 presidential elections was very significant. Parents of Gen. X, grew up during WWII and tended to be much more conservative so they, and their children, would've had a huge impact during the 80s.

To me, it seems the college-age voters and their parents make up the largest number of voters in pres. elections.

So, do you think Obama's chances of winning could be related to this?

  1. Yes.  They think it would be "cool" for him to win, and don't do any research.  They follow the trend.  If someone says theyre going to vote for Obama, then everyone else follows.

  2. um first of all, voting is not a trend like wearing ugg boots. We don't consider ourselves "cool" if we vote for Obama. That doesn't apply to this situation. We are a different generation that is brought up on different beliefs. I'm voting for Obama because of his energy policy not because my friend is.... McCain has a very week energy policy when it comes to the environment and since our generation is being educated about "going green" this is a significant plus to us. And last of all, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people out there who don't research about the candidates not just the 20 year olds....

  3. Pols at this stage are almost always wrong. The truth is that gen-Xers and minorities will not vote in large numbers. Never have. Obama is "Hoping" for a "Change" in this truism!
