Question:

Does Ohio issue Warrants for Unpaid Tickets?

Now, here's the long story: I was in a car crash on Tuesday in Cincinnati. They issued me a ticket, claiming the CITY requires tickets to be issued in the event of a traffic ticket. They gave me 7 days to pay it, but I'm 20, and unemployeed, and don't have any possible way to come up with that amount of money by tomorrow anyway.

I wonder if the state will issue a warrant for an unpaid violation? I've never been in any sort of trouble with the law before, and I'm really worried that getting into a wreck is going to ruin the rest of my adult life.

I also wonder, are warrants only valid in the state they're issued or if I get pulled over elsewhere, will I be taken in for something that happened in Cincinnati?

  1. Yes they do issue warrants. Contact the court - traffic court - at number on ticket and ask for pay arrangements.  They will work with you but you must call now, you cnanot wait any longer.  Warrants are valid everywhere, it depends on whether the jurisdiction that issued the warrant will go to the expense to send someone to transport you back.  But yes, if a warrnat is issued they will take you in custody

  2. Yes, most States do. Called a Bench Warrant. These are not normally pursued actively, but should you get stopped again, it will show up on the computer and you may be arrested. It will be part of your drivers history and able to be seen by any police agency that uses computers (which is about all of them).

  3. The court of record will issue a warrant for your arrest, not the state. It will have a pick up radius (the area Cinci PD will drive to pick you up if caught), usually the same county or adjoining counties, not out of state for a traffic violation. They may and prob will suspend your Ohio diving privileges for failure to pay the fine. If the state you live in is part of the Violator Compact Agreement, your state will ALSO suspend your driving privileges until the fine is paid.

Your best bet is to call and arrange a payment plan.

  4. in my state they would just suspend ur lisence until you pay the tickets off... but if your citation says "must appear" then they will have a bench warrent out for your arrest... and no states talk to each other so if you get pulled over in another state they will know about ur warrents and ur drivin record... it all depends on which state u live in they have different laws...

  5. Your license will be suspended (even if it's not an Ohio license) and you may very well get a warrant.  Whether or not you get a warrant depends on the jurisdiction and if they decide to.

If you want to take care of the ticket but can't afford the whole thing right now you can contact them and work out a payment arrangement.
