Does Oswego County have an open adoption Policy and what is it?

I signed my rights to my child over to the Oswego County DSS and am wondering if my volunteer surrender was a oopen adoption where can i find out if it was? and if so can i take it back to court if the open adoption is being violated even though it,s been four years?

  1. Open adoptions are not legally enforceable in any state or county.  You can ask the adoptive parents to open up the adoption, but if they say no, there's nothing you can do.  :-(

    Heather kicks butt and knows exactly what she's talking about! I would also suggest that you add your information to the International Soundex Reunion Registry http://www.isrr.net/ in case your child has been moved out of state or has issues getting information from DSS. (It happens.)

  3. Ensure you make your wish for open adoption clear and known to the State - have a waiver of confidentiality placed on the DSS file and with the Department of Health and keep it up-to-date with change of address etc

    Submit any updated medical information to the Department of Health Adoption Information Registry in Albany

    And help fight closed and secret adoptions with Unsealed Initiative - support the Bill A2277 and S235
