Question:

Does Ottawa deserve another C.F.L. team?

I am asking this question because maybe its time to give another city/town/village or Tuktuyuktuk (home of the real "Frozen Tundra") a chance. I loved the Roughriders when I was a kid, but the people of the Ottawa Valley didn't and they folded. Next up the Renegades, and they stunk big time (except for the one season), so the ever so s****. fans turned their backs once again. Now the CFL wants to bring another team to the area?? You think the fans are going to support a 2-16 expansion team(if they even get 2 wins) for 4 or 5 years? I know for a fact the people of Halifax would, les fans de Quebec City and even Tuktuyuktuk would too, but Ottawa ... not a chance.

Feel free to tell me why I am wrong, or if you agree but have something to add.

  1. Firstly a bit on but a bit off topic - not sure why we would add a ninth team???  The league makes more sense at 8, even though that means Winnipeg is in the East.

But to the question... Ottawa has tried, twice now, and failed both times. First time shame on you, second time shame on me... isn't that the saying? Are we going to try one more time? Why can it work now? The stadium is not great, the fans have never been truely supportive (good point about support of expansion team).

Halifax needs to build a stadium. Show it's hard-core ready for the CFL. I personally don't think CFL will fly in the Maritimes. Although the party they throw is always one of the best at Grey Cup, I'm not sure they can consistently attract large enough crowds.

Quebec City? Don't really know what the odds on survival here is? Montreal's team has real yflourished but that's not too hard when your team is dominant, and goes to the Grey Cup three years of four.

What would be neat is to stage a Grey Cup in one of these non-league destinations. I know that that's not fair to existing teams, but it would make for a neat atmosphere.

  2. I agree - put a team in Halifax or Quebec City first. But I think it comes down to who comes up with the money/plan. I'm sure if some millionaire stepped up with money and a plan, the CFL would say yes regardless of weather said millionaire wanted to put a team in Ottawa, Halifax or Tuktuyuktuk.

  3. I'm from Halifax and I think the bitter reality is that QC would be a better place for the CFL. Saint Mary's gets a few thousand people at most for their regular season games (I am one of them), but Laval gets twenty thousand plus. So it's easy to guage where the interest in football is.

  4. Yes - Ottawa fans supported their teams as best they could despite the way the ownership treated them.  As for Halifax, they don't have the population and where is the team going to play?  In case you didn't notice, they don't have a stadium.

FYI, it the Rough Riders.  Roughriders is that team from Saskatchewan.

  5. your qustion is way to long to read, but to answer the simple first part, i would say yes, give ottawa another cfl team

  6. Yes, I say go for it.

    Go Stamps.

  7. If they do get a new team, just don't name them Roughriders.  Two out of nine teams with the same name is just wrong.

  8. no way does Ottawa deserve another team.  They didn't support the team the last two times, why should they bother now?

There are other cities that would love a team, and would definately support the team!  The CFL BofG needs to stop looking at Ottawa and listen to what the fans want.  If the BofG checked out some of the forums that are out there - they would see what the fans want.

  9. Good question. I think the city and the fans do as it's not their fault the Gliebermans were involved two times.

The main thing is in any dispersal draft let Ottawa load up a bit. Give those fans a decent team. If it hurts other teams, so what? Let's get that old Rough Rider pride back and definitely get that HUGE R back on the helmet.

  10. They ask the same question in Los Angeles California. Ottawa will receive another team before they wiil get an NFL squad.

  11. YES

  12. any city anywhere in canada,it's time to support canadian football ,after all the league is older then the n.f.l. .the maritimes should have had a team along time ago.people in canada get sucked in by all the the american bull%$%,but we keep selling out to them south of the border.we are canadian and not american and we should take pride in our country and our sports.our country at 30 million and u.s.a. at 300 million and we still kick there butts in hockey ,just shows how much talent we have in this country of ours.were sitting in the greatest country  in the world and our sports kicks *** if we take pride in it as the americans do.take a lesson canada.........      a very proud canadian

  13. i will say no as the cfl will reach strike 3 if they give them one more chance however ottawa should be able sustain a franchise but i`d like to see quebec city get a franchise even though (i really hate to admit it) i`m anti francaphone sorry no pun attended but outside of the prairies quebec is second to none in football support , i would also like to se teams in halifax st.johns and saskatoon and london ont.

  14. I think that Ottawa deserves a good owner for their football team. So yes, I think they should have one more shot. If they got an owner that was serious and committed to fielding a decent team instead of dating the cheerleaders (like the previous owner) then I think they could easily win back some fan support. I think the blame for Ottawa's last failure at the CFL was the owners running it down, which wasn't fair to the fans or the city.  Renegades or Roughriders....bring em back for 2007!

    Go Stamps Go :)
