Hi there

I leave in Dublin, Ireland and I work part time as student. I know that I get the P45 when I stop working in a company but my question is Can I work again in the same company even I got the P45 from them? does the P45 means that I cannot work in that company anymore?

Thanks in advance

  1. If you start working for them again, and you haven't worked for anyone else in between, you just give them the P45 back.  (You can keep the page that says Part 1a copy for employee).

  2. Nope!  It means you *do* not work for that company anymore, not you *cannot* work for that company anymore.

It is standard procedure that you get one when leaving employment, as it holds details that the tax man needs to know.  Maybe you've heard people talk about it like it's a negative thing, and yes, at my company they say things like "your P45 is in reception" to indicate that you've been fired, but actually everyone gets one upon leaving whether you chose to leave or whether you were dismissed.

That said, many companies have very strict policies regarding rehire of ex-employees and it may be harder to get in the second time than it was the first!  They usually pick up internal references for you before you're even invited to interview.

  3. Hi your p45 holds tax information about you. You need your p45 so you can give it to your new employer. Don't worry if you lose your p45 as you can just give your new employer your National Insurance number this holds all the tax info needed and when you leave this job a new p45 will be generated and posted out to you.

You can always go back to a company who has issued you a p45 unless you have been fired and they don't want you back. Receiving a P45 is standard

I am the MD of T Media I do this quite often

  4. Hi i knw that the p45 is given to you when employment ends but unless you've been fired from that company i see no reason why you cannot work there again

  5. No, this happens to casual employees all the time. The P45 only relates to that period of employment.

Whether or not you can work for that company again depends on your employment record with them and how they view the quality of your work. Your reason for leaving may also be relevant.
