  1. No there just very expesive, new techology.

  2. They do use different clubs, they are called prototypes but for the most part they use the same you can buy if you have the money.  The only difference is there swing is a lot more efficient than ours and they can control the trajectory of the ball to make it   fly lower with more distance, or launch high for less distance.

  3. Yes their clubs are special.  They are custom fit for each professional and because modern clubs have so much weight at the bottom which gets the ball up quickly the pros have their clubs bent so the lofts are stronger.  Their 7 iron has the loft of your 5 iron or so.  But there is a lot of skill involved too - distance is a function of clubhead speed at impact and they are good at generating that.  But few if any are playing clubs "off the rack"  like we are.

  4. Most Pro Golfers have golf club sets that are tailored to their wants and needs. The loft of the club can even be adjusted to whatever the golfer wants. Most golfers use standard loft clubs and a 5 iron for 200 yards is average.

  5. Generally speaking, pros use forged irons and amateurs use the cheaper, more forgiving cast irons. Forged irons can give better distance the cast irons. However, in the hands of a pro either one of these will go further, just because the pros are pros for a reason.

A 5 iron will go different distances in the hands of different individuals abilities. Do not be disappointed if your 5 iron only goes 160 yards. Not everyone can hit the 5 iron that far and some can hit it much further.

  6. each pro has clubs that are specially made for them, saying that they are not that much different then what you can buy.  The biggest difference is talent and technique.  Why do you think they make so much money???

I actually saw tiger hit a 7 iron 235 yards one time off a hardpan surface.  I thought that was pretty far...

  7. The touring pros are...better.  My golf teacher is a plus 2 golfer.  Played on the Buy.com tour when it was the Nike and hits his 8 iron about 170 to 180.  His golf mechanics are perfect.  When I started out my 5 iron was less that 150 now it is a lot longer.  I recommend lessons so you can learn how to hit "down" on the ball to produce the backspin that actually gets the ball in the air.  Little known fact that you won't learn on TV.

  8. No, they have special talent. I recall seeing Sergio Garcia hit an eight iron 200 yards.
