yes the ps3 has a blueray player in it and it does "upconvert" your standard dvd's to HD, if you have the options properly configured (under the options icon) (and for each user account you make on the ps3 the options need to be set seperately.)

Keep in mind that your regular DVDs will only look slightly better than normal when you upconvert them. There is nothing you can do to make them look like Bluray discs.
