According to her...it was our Founding Fathers

Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance

  1. As one of the previous answers states One Nation Under God was added in the 50's, but regardless the USA was founded by people that believed in God. One atheist forced millions of Americans not to pray in public schools proving once and for all that the USA is not a democracy.

  2. It is clear that in addition to her other right wing extremist positions she does not accept the separation of Church and State and perhaps even favors a theocratic government as expressed by The Reconstructionists She seems to believe that the Founding Fathers wrote it.

  3. "People really like that mom, apple pie, and patriotism stuff."  JFK to Bobby at his surprise of the amount of patriotic gore when running for office.

  4. I am sure she does. What has this got to do with anything. Does obama even say it. i don't think so. Stop digging so deep. You may find something you do not want to know.

Oh. My. God. Giant hat tip to JLFinch's recommended diary: here's McCain's selection for the Vice Presidency of the United States, Sarah Palin, answering a 2006 policy questionnaire:

Q: Are you offended by the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

PALIN: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance

I don't even know what to say to that... I think the only possible response is a long, drawn out pause, followed by a vigorous beating of your head against the wall.

Fun facts: when John McCain's grandfather graduated from the Naval Academy in 1906, the Pledge of Allegiance, as first written, was only fourteen years old. It would not be made the official pledge of the United States until 1942, six years after John McCain himself was born.

When John McCain was born, the words "Under God" were not in the Pledge. They would not appear there until 1954, during McCain's senior year of high school.

Either McCain's graduating class included Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson (hey, maybe Palin will ask him), or McCain's own vice presidential candidate doesn't know a stick of history -- but still feels perfectly qualified to opine on it anyway. What a completely non-comforting thought.

  6. The "Under God" phrase was added during the  Eisenhower administration in the 1950s.  I didn't realize he was a founding father.

Plus it was written in the late 19th century.  The US was founded in the 18th century.

  7. ????

  8. why should i be offended, if u don't like it ignore it

  9. Don't believe the blogs...on either side.

  10. I thought Palin would say it was Betsy Ross...I am not offended by the word God...I attend a spiritual center where we all have our own beliefs. So the rule is: if the word I use fits you then take it & if not just let it go. Sometimes people who use God, Buddha, Christ, Jesus, Higher power, Universe, etc. I don't think it is necessary in the Pledge. Actually if we are pledging to go kill people for our country I am not for that altogether cause God or whatever my source is,  is my protection. War just creates more way. We get what we put out. The people who prayed the dems convention would be ruined hopefully have learned this lesson. So there are universal laws & fighting doesn't bring peace anymore than s*x brings virginity. Palin is another example of the mentality of republicans. I have no respect for anyone who votes for McCain.
