Question:

Does Petrolatum Draw Out Ink For Tattoos?

I am currently using Aveeno Baby lotion to moisturize my new tattoo. It contains petrolatum but I have no idea if it will affect the ink or healing process in any way. Here's the ingredients:

Active Ingredients: Dimethicone

Inactive Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Oat (Avena Sativa) Flour, Allantoin, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride

Are there any ingredients that could affect the outcome of my tattoo? Would it be okay if I switch to TattooGoo later on? (I don't have the time to go purchase it right now, I really regret it for not buying it when I was there. I will probably get it within the week.)

  1. just use a really simple nonscented lotion; curel and lubriderm are the brands most tattoo shops recommend

  2. I would HIGHLY advise walking away from the baby lotion. It's strangling your skin which will cause your skin to scab and push out the ink. if you keep using it expect needing touchups and an unhappy tattoo artist. You don't have to use tattoo goo. any good unscented lotion will work. you just want to keep it lightly mosturized so that the skin can heal properly.

  3. petrolatum can cause tatt to fade- however tattoogoo is a rip off. use e45 cream or nappy rash cream! just a small amount and rub it in really well

  4. Well they use vaseline.

    So im guessing yes!

    (:

  5. vaseline products do draw out ink.

    use only unscented lotion.

  6. I have used Tattoo Goo on my last tattoo. the color still looks like the day I got it done. the ones that I used lotion and other creams, they have faded. I had to go back and get one redone to make it black instead of grey and I'm going back to have my flames redone so they can be seen.

So to me tattoo goo is the best to use, but I'd use whatever your tattoo artist told you to use.

Hope this has helped you out.

  7. Non-petroleum and unscented is def the way to go. And pref more water base than alcohol. But you don't have to buy expensive tattoo creams. A plain old sorbolene or Vitamin E cream or gel will work just as well - as long as it's unfragranced etc. Even better if it says it's for sensitive skin.

If you continue to use Aveeno in the meantime apply it to the tattoo sparingly. Just a light coating will do - do not smother or slather it in cream. Actually that's the trick with any cream. A light coating of anything is enough. Too much cream might fade the tatt or draw the ink out.

    Good luck

  8. i used vaseline as requested by my tattooist. and it was fine!

but my sister's tattooist said never to use it! and my sister's second tattooist said that it was fine and gave her a list of things that she could use.

every tattooist believes something different, usually based on they're experience, but what doesn't work for one person may work for another!
