Question:

Does Petsmart or any other pet store/animal shelter take in birds? Particularly parakeets?

One of my parakeets just died and I am left with one. I know that if it stays lonely it will pluck its own feathers out. I won't be able to keep pets much longer because of going off to college so I really can't buy a new one. Are there any places that take in birds and cares for them? I don't know if location has anything to do with it but I live in Sugar Land, TX. Any help please?

  1. try finding a friend or family friend to take him/her. if you cant find one then i think any petstore would take him/her because i know they do with small mammals and fish.

if they dont then see if theres a parakket rescue near you or a local shelter.

i would first try a family friend though since you knwo they are going to a good home!

  2. Call your local ASPCA/Animal Rescue...they will help you and your feathered friend. kjl

  3. I don't know seeing that I am not from that region. But you can always check the phone book for specialist shelters. Or I have foung great help in Petfinders.com look under shelters. I hope this helps.

  4. Our local Petco has a list of Rescue volunteers. Call your local Petco and ask for the phone number if they have any in your area that will take your bird in.

  5. try shelters they will most likely take them in, at my local shelters i have seen birds and different animals there besides dogs and cats.

  6. the best you can do is just find someone to take it. petsmart doesn't take animals. i don't know about the shelters...

  7. ok i had a parakeet that didnt like peoplpe so we took it to petco and they took it in

  8. The shelter would be the best place or you could try Craigslist.com

  9. The houston humane society takes in birds!
