  1. Yes, some dvd players have amplifiers in them but they are not just DVD players. They are all in one combo units. Basically If the dvd player has a volume control on it, then it is an all in one unit and will come with speakers.

You can usually get these pretty cheap. The sub woofer(bass box) will have a built in amp in most cases if it is packaged together. Phillips makes a couple of these systems. You can get them cheap at walmart or target.

  2. Most probably not. The signal coming out of CD players, VCRs, DVD's, Laserdisc Players etc., are connected in a system at line level. Line level is before power amplification which is what a receiver or power amplifier does.

Sounds (such as voices or a musical instruments) are recorded by mics that produce weak electrical signals. These signals must be amplified to line level, where they are more easily manipulated by other devices such as mixing consoles. Such amplification is performed by a device known as a preamplifier or "preamp". After manipulation at line level, signals are then typically sent to a device known as a power amplifier, where they are amplified to levels that can drive  loudspeakers, (or headphones), which convert the signals back into sounds that can be heard.
