  1. yes

  2. I do not have personal experience, with Playa De Carmen.

However, all Mexican towns have some form of street market, and all Mexican tourist towns have tourist trap street markets.

Street vendors are not limited by local zoning codes, the way they are here.

Anyone can sell anything they want to, anywhere they want to, so if they find a piece of street or sidewalk that they think will help them sell their goods, they will set up there.

If they do well, others will set up there also. Presto. A street market is born.

  3. Yes, just go to 5th Ave & the side streets and will be plenty of markets.

  4. I live in Playa.  The street vendors have to have a license here, and the city has cut way back on the number of licenses.  You will find some stands selling food, jewelry, and other items, but there is no street market as such.  You will find a small market, which has enclosed stalls on the corner of 6th street and 10th avenue.  However, most of the permitted selling is in stores.  Sometimes you will find people on the beach selling, but they are at risk of getting picked up by tax authorities and their merchandise confiscated.  Cancun, Tulum, and Puerto Moreles are pretty much the same.
