Does Russia have a Term limit for the Presidency? Also, how long does a Russian Presidential term last?

I know that in the U.S. a President can only serve for two complete terms, and that each term last for about four years. I was just wondering incase, Prime Minister Putin, decides to have Russain President Medvedev assassinated, take control of Russia as Temp President and take over the position indefinitely before the three months pass in which Russia is supposed to choose the next Russian President.

Thank you : )

  1. They have a two term limit like the US, but Medvedev is basically Putin's puppet anyway.  Putin hand picked him to be his successor.

  2. This is what I found on Wikipedia

    { The Constitution of Russia also restricts the period during which a person can hold the office of the President to two consecutive terms. There is no limit to total terms that a President may be served, just a limit on successive terms. }

    So it looks that the term is only four years and you can only hold office for two terms "consecutively". So it looks like you can be president for two terms, skip four years, then run again.

  3. Yes every four years a new term begins. Their president today is Dmitry Medvedev. He has been there for 2000, it ends this year.
