  1. They just said they blame him for all this trouble and will not negotiate with him.

    You can easily google for the exact words since it is widely reported in the rest of the world.

    They have been there since 1992 with no trouble until the US backed Georgian president was elected in 2004. He is a brutal and repressive leader who has recently been attacking his people by the thousands when they protest his policies.

    The Russians do not want Georgia to control South Ossetia, that has been independent since 1992. The only land route though the Caucasus mountains to Russia is there via a tunnel.

    Georgia broke off from Russia in '91 and the South Ossetians  wanted nothing to do with the Georgians. They speak another language and have lived there (with the North Ossetians - relatives) since the 12th century! Stalin divided them against their will. They have been petitioning the UN for their freedom ever since. The US opposes it.
