Does SPYWARE have to be downloaded?

i know viruses and trojans have to be but what about spyware?

can it move on its own or not?

  1. yes spyware can install itself and other programs as well


  2. You dont have to specifically agree to download it, no. Just like a virus/trojan, spyware can be hidden in what appears to be a legit download, or tranferred to your computer simply by visiting a website.

  3. Yes, and no. Spyware can be attained by just going to a Website. It always can be Downloaded, Take SmithFruad-C for example, you mostly have to download something to get it.

  4. If you want it to spy on you. YES!!!!!

Spyware is in the same category as adware, viruses, etc.  Yes technically they have to be downloaded but that can happen very easily without your knowledge if you're not careful.  The bottom line is to stay away from suspicious sites (easier said than done) and always have Spyware & Virus protection (Ad-Aware and Spybot work well, as well as AVG Antivirus).
