Question:

Does Samsung PC Studio really have a trojan virus??

Yesterday I downloaded and installed Samsung PC studio from the official Samsung website and had no problems. I moved a couple of pictures and all my text messages to the PC so there was more memory available on the phone. I was really happy that it was all working great!

But today my AVG (Anti virus software) installed some usual updates and ran a scan as of the C drive as usual, but it showed that a file in the Samsung PC Studio folder as a TROJAN when I tried to load it!!!

It says the infection is a "Trojan horse Generic11.KYC"

C:\Program Files\Samsung\Samusung PC Studio 3\Update\SecThem.dll

The file is now in the virus vault and i cant use the PC stuido anymore :'(

I know that people have said that antivrus software may interfere with synchronising but this seems a bit fishy to me. Is this normal and does this happen to everyone? Is my AVG making a mistake and its really not a trojan? Is Samsung PC Studio safe to use?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks :)

  1. I just discovered the same problem, apparently a new update on AVG. I have decided it is a false reading and I shut off AVG when I run updates on my Samsung 717, then turn it back on. I am forwarding the file to AVG for a dissection.

Look forward to any other comments!

  2. I just discovered the same this morning. I haven't updated the Samsung PC Studio, but I don't know whether AVG did. The scan was running all night, so it may have been discovered earlier. I think it's either a bug with the new AVG update, or the new update lets AVG detect that virus.

Something I just noticed - I can't send it for analysis

  3. Having same issues. I sent the Info also to AVG.

  4. I have ran across this severel times with customers using AVG. I uninstalled AVG got their program working again and than installed a better antivirus - antispyware program called Spyware Doctor with Anti virus. It is not free but it does a way better job of securing your PC.

Spyware Doctor is one of the top seller in the world. And in test after test Spyware Doctor finishes in 1st place.

You can get it at http://www.pctools.com

AVG may be working on a fix but my customers are business uses and need security now.  Also I have seen this same bug pop up several times in the past 3 years.

I still give AVG out to home uses who can afford the wait for patches.

Any questions about it you can contact me.

  5. Alright, another person having the very same issue.

It says the infection is a "Trojan horse Generic11.KYC"

I guess I'm not going to really sweat the AVG Trojan horse report. I isolated the file in question and emptied the virus vault, just in case....

I did update my Samsung PC Studio a few weeks ago.

But, AVG reported a different folder for the Trojan Horse.

    C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\1IZ5K4GZ\SecTheme[1].d...

    Still happy with AVG.

    Update:

    =================================

    "Trojan horse Generic11.KYC"

AVG was still running in the background and reported two more of the same files as a Trojan Horse, after I posted my previous response:

    C:\Program Files\Samsung\Samusung PC Studio 3\SecThem.dll

    C:\Program Files\Samsung\Samusung PC Studio 3\Update\SecThem.dll

I sent the files to AVG for analysis...
