So I've been taking Yaz for quite some time now, but I was recently informed that certain mood stabilizers can decrease the effectivness of some birth controls. Any answers? I just started 200 mg or serequel...

  1. possibly -talk to your gyn.

  2. it is highly unlikely that seroquel will effect your birth control. the mood stabilizers that can have this effect are metabolized in ways that interfere with hormones. seroquel is not metabolized that way. drugs that are more likely to interfere with your birth control include barbituates, such as phenobarbital, and benzodiazepines, such as lorazepam.  if you want to be certain, though, call your pharmacy.

if at any point you do begin to have any changes in your cycle (irregular bleeding or bleeding mid-cycle, for example), call your ob/gyn. if you have s*x, use a back-up method of contraception until you can see your doc.
