  1. NO!!

Brain Habana is coloured and he is one of the best players of the game!!!

  2. In cricket you have Ntini who is one of your very best players. What do you need to do to have black or Coloured rugby players of similarly very top quality? People of African ***** genetic inheritance are great at most sports so why not rugby?

  3. The idea behind the hole system was to help people for a previous disadvantage background, by ways of better training methods, the hole lot, witch at first was far. Unfortunately the program wasn't a big success due to the fact that their bodies aren't on par with the other children, so they started pushing players into teams to make up the numbers which numbers you ask: in each provincial side, U21's and down each team must consist of 13 previous disadvantage and 9 white kids. Unfortunatly this wasn't possible, why, the black kids were still playing soccer, considered their sport and not rugby, considered a white and coulered sport. Thus the implatation of the idea in senior rugby, so that black kids can see black adults playing on t.v. and thus they will start to play themself, well that's the idea behind it all.

    I hope my explaination help.

    Cheers

  4. No sports team nor business nor country should nor can survive when colour not merit determines the selection/employment/

    appointment of persons to positions.

In response to Jack573 players can only be picked in the positions they play, however the assertion that they are always picked at wing is ridiculous.  Rather than go on for too long I will just mention a few names Quintin Davis (Lock); Shimange & Chilliboy (Hookers); Solly Tribyulika (Flank); Kennedy Tsimba (Flyhalf); Ricky Januarie (Scrumhalf); Bobo (Centre); Thinus Linee (Centre) Conrad Jantjies (Fullback) and these are only a few off the top of my head have either played Sprinbok, Super or Currie Cup rugby.

Affirmative action is rife in South Africa and while the need for it is understandable, it is because of the abuse of it that it never serves its purposes or is in place for the length of time it should be.  For affirmative action, what is supposed to happen is that if two candidates/players are equal in all relevant ways but one is of colour then that one is selected.  This is why it is supposed to be implemented at grass roots level and is anticipated to only be in place for 10-15 years.  But if, as has happened, you use it to appoint people in positions above their experience and skill, whether it is in business/sport/government then you have inferior performance and wastage.

The interesting fact for South Africa is that it is the younger generation people of colour and whites who are benefiting and suffering under affirmative action respectively. While it is the older generations who benefitted or suffered previously, thus instead of correcting the balances of the past we have just perpetuated the cycle reversing the roles.

And to MBK, given the size of the population of people of colour in South Africa, the number of those interested in rugby is miniscule.  Rugby is part of the white culture to the same extent soccer is part of the non-white culture in South Africa.

To answer the question, no-one can expect a player whose dream it is to play for their country to turn that down.  In a perfect world they would make this stand and the situation would change, in reality if they did this someone else of colour would be selected and get the lucrative contracts etc.  In all honesty, I would have to say that so far as the Sprinbok team is concerned that most players who have been selected have been of a high standard but I do believe that in a number of situations, not all, a better player has been left out because of his lack of colour.

  5. Yes it weakens the team, if you are a good player and their is a better player than you why would the Goverment put in the weaker player just because he is "the right color"?

  6. I will not comment on the politics of including the players of color as you call them.

IMHO, the players of color are only selected for the wing positions and this does seem to impact on the team.

If the players of color were selected in/for other positions then perhaps the team may perform better, but, once again you have the problem of not selecting on merit for these other positions.
