Does St. Augustine Grass grow seeds/ seed stems?

I remember hearing someone say that St.Augustine doesn't have seeds, or doesn't grow from seeds. I don't know if that means that the seeds are not sold/available, or if its actually just the way the grass is.

So what is the case with St.Augustine seeds; Does the grass produce seeds? If so, are they unavailable for purchase?

The reason I am asking, and if you could help me on this part to, it would be greatly appreciated, is because I was pulling 'weeds' from my grass, and there were these shoots sticking up with seeds on them... I pulled a few, and noticed that they share most of the features of the grass itself. I'm thinking that possibly this is St. Augustine seed. Does anyone have a picture of what a shoot of seeds of st.augustine(if seeds exist) So I can see if they match what I dug up? I already did a google search

They can grow by seed but it is better to grow them by sod- the rhizomes they put out are like branches with roots and they will help it to spread. The only problem is that St. Augustine doesn't grow as fast as the weeds that will fill in any empty spaces around it so make sure when you use sod make sure to keep it snug. Use plugs of sod or entire sheets of sod, if you don't you will have a nightmare of weeds and grass on your hands and you will be spending all your time spraying weeds and digging them out.

The little spikes you're seeing are seeds.  St Augustine does grow seeds, but it's my understanding that they're not viable.

Only recently has commercially valuable viable seed for St. Augustine become available, so it has typically been propagated by plugs, sprigs, or sod. Once the grasses are cultivated, then they can propagate on their own.
