  1. No, it's still Suriname. Before independence in 1975 it was known as Dutch Guiana.  Sranan was NEVER a name for the country. That is the main language spoken in Suriname, although Dutch is the official language.


  2. I know a country called Suriname, sometimes spelled Surinam.

    It has been called by a different name after the independence: Sranan.

    I have not heard about a new name change, but as I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands, not in Suriname, I might have missed the news.
