The Amtrak is a train. It goes to Philadelphia and also Washington D.C.It stops at 34th street which is in New York. The Amtrak is like the LIRR, The Long Island Railroad because both trains travel around lots of places.

  1. "Amtrak" is not a train, per se.  Amtrak is the public name for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, which is the company that operates all regularly scheduled intercity rail service in the United States.

Amtrak has many trains that operate between New York Penn Station, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.  These trains are operated as "Regional," "Metroliner," or "Acela Express" services.

Amtrak also has trains in other parts of the country, including a few long-distance trains that operate overnight, connecting different parts of the country.

Amtrak's service to Michigan includes the "Pere Marquette" train, which operates between Chicago, IL, and Grand Rapids, MI; the "Blue Water" between Chicago and Port Huron, MI; and the "Wolverine" service, which offers three trains per day between Chicago, Detroit, and Pontiac.  Each of these routes makes multiple stops, in addition to those that I listed.

If you wanted to get from New York (presuming that's where your trip will start) to Michigan, you could:

Take the Lake Shore Limited train, which operates overnight from New York to Chicago, and transfer in Chicago to one of the above cities, or

Take the Lake Shore Limited to Toledo, OH, and ride a connecting bus into Detroit.

If you're traveling to southeast Michigan, the latter option would be best.  If you're traveling to western Michigan, the former would probably be best.

  2. Yes-there are 2 stations that I know of. One in East Lansing for MSU and another in Kalamazoo for Western Michigan. I'm sure there are others in the Ann Arbor area and Grand Rapids too.

  3. Can't be 100% sure, but I know Amtrak trains stop in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo.  Just don't know if it's the same train you're talking about.

  4. Amtrak has a website that can assist you with this question.

  5. Yes, Amtrak trains serve the State of Michigan.
