  1. When you heard that Venus Flytraps need nitrogen, what that probably meant was that they need nitrogen in their soil, not that they need to eat bugs with nitrogen in them.  What that probably meant was that you need put a fertilizer with nitrogen in the soil.  It should be pretty easy to find a fertilizer that comes from non-animal sources that contains nitrogen.  As far as trying to get them to eat something other than bugs, I don't think it would hurt to try to feed them little bits of tofu, but I don't think there will be any nutritional advantage to them if they do end up eating the tofu.

  2. Amino acids are distinguished by their nitrogen-containing amine groups. All proteins are composed of amino acids.

If a food contains protein, it will also be holding nitrogen.

  3. Tofu has protein (though not as much as meat) and all protein contains nitrogen. But I haven't the slightest idea if a Venus flytrap can digest tofu. Maybe a Japanese flytrap? :-)

  4. tofu is a simple soy curd.  I believe any nitrogens would be a result of digestion.

It should be a healthy treat for your venus fly traps.  Mine got hamburger...maybe that's what killed them.
