I have been taking Tramadol for a while now for some rib pain and I was wondering if it will show up on a standard drug test. If so will I be able to tell them that it has been perscribed to me?

  1. Yes it will show on a drug test. If properly prescribed by a doctor and within the time line of taking them properly and legally you can tell the Medical Review Officer, MRO, the conditions under which you are taking the drug. He will contact your doctor to confirm.

  2. Yes ... for sure

  3. Tramadol is an opioid, but it usually doesn't show up on the standard preliminary urinalysis tests (they have to use a specially designed test that's more expensive in order to detect tramadol). It would still be a good idea to tell the testers beforehand, though.

Standard operating procedure for these things is that they have you fill out paperwork beforehand in which you list all of the medications that you are currently taking. Take the prescription bottle and your physician's contact information with you, just in case you have to prove that you're taking it legally.

You can't get in trouble for a positive result that's related to a legally prescribed medication. The only potential problem is if you're taking the test in order to get a job where you'll be operating heavy machinery or doing something like that where taking painkillers could be dangerous.

  4. Tramadol is Generic Name . Trade Name  Tramake, Ultram, Zamadol, Zydol . Non-reactive for urine drug tests.
