Lets say the champion holder like quiton rampage. He only fight like one or maybe twice a year. Does he get salary for his daily base training or he will only get paid from fighting in PPV.

Another question is the insurance for the fighters. Fighter like shogun rua, he suffered from his knee injury and required several times of surger, does the insurance cover his injuries ?

  1. yea like 50 bucks and hour

  2. no fighters are paid when they fight in any promotion not just UFC many of them will teach or open there own gyms or somehting many mnay pro fighters still have "real" jobs as well

no fighters do not have insurance form the UFC fighters are basically conisdered indepdent contractors they agree to fight with the UFC or elite XC or who ever for a certian number of fights but they are not actually employed but the promotion

  3. You get a salary per year, you get paid per fight, you get paid win bonuses, KO of the night, fight of the night, submission of the night. So basically a fighter is guaranteed his salary and guaranteed for every fight, how much they get is based on how big of a fighter they are. So training is part of the job so that would be included in the yearly salary.  The TUF winners get a 6 figure salary, which is more than a lot of the regular fighters.

  4. I believe their contracts cover their fights and training is part of the deal, I dont know about the insurance but thats a good question cause any sport with this kind of contact usualy needs to be checked out often.

  5. No they do not get paid for training...at least not by the organization such as the UFC.  Fighters are only paid to fight which is the base amount just to show up and fight, a possible win bonus (bigger organizations like the UFC), special fight bonuses (KO, Submission, Fight of the Night), and the big name fighters are usually awarded a little extra cut (actually not a little...it's usually even more than their fight purse).  Training is at the fighter's expense...maybe a sponsor might cover the training costs but it depends on the sponsor.  An MMA fighter takes a lot of punishment so they can't be fighting 8 times a year especially a champ that's going to be fighting the best...Rampage makes plenty from fighting twice a year so that's not a problem for him...it may be a problem for a guy that only makes $5000 a fight and that is why they have those fight bonuses...to encourage a entertaining, finished fight...the lesser paid fighters will really put on a show because not only are they trying to impress but also need to make a living.  Insurance probably depends on the organization...most leave it at the expense of the fighter.  A fighter doesn't like this much, but then again, it's a dream to fight for the UFC so what more can they do but simply accept it.  There have been fighters that really go public and voice their concern about such things as pay and insurance, but you don't see them fighting for the UFC anymore (Tito, Kalib Starnes, Randy Couture).  So simply put...a fighter doesn't have a yearly salary like someone here mentioned the Ultimate Fighter example...the TUF contract is not a 6 figure yearly salary...it means they'll get a combined total of 6 figures when you add up all 6 fights on the contract, especially if they win.  They get paid per fight and basically don't have insurance through the company...it's at their own cost, if they even have any!
