I'm just wondering if they function the same or are two different entities.

  1. UPS is the package delivery part.  They do deliveries and regular pick up from businesses.

UPS stores are a place to drop off UPS shipments or receive delivery by any method that can deliver to an address.  They have something similar to PO boxes, but they can receive UPS shipments, postal letters or shipments, or from most any other shipper.

That is different from PO Boxes at the post office that only accept postal mail or mailed shipments.

  2. The UPS store is a subsidiary of UPS.  You can ship packages at the store via UPS but they can also ship packages through the US mail, offer copy services, have mailboxes for rent, have a notary, and help you package the things you need to send.

(Dirty little UPS secret: you can usually get a cheaper shipping rate online than at the store b/c the store has to jack up the price a little to get their cut)

(the UPS stores used to be MailBoxes Etc before UPS bought them and renamed them)
