Question:

Does Vehical Stability Control and traction control help on compact cars?

I have a civic and have had problems with skidding in snow and even when the road is damp, not wet.

So in looking for a new compact, I was wondering if VSC and traction control help? Or do automatic compact cars normally not have enough power for it to be useful? Thanks

  1. Put it this way:  I had a Dodge Colt (same basic size and shape as the Civic) that had the same problems with damp or snowy conditions.  My current car is a Pontiac Grand Prix, and even though it's not a compact it's fairly light for its size because it's a sports car.  The Grand Prix has VSC and traction control, and I have not had a problem in rain or snow.  So my vote is yes, VSC and traction control help

  2. Snow and ice is where these systems actually aid the driver with control. If you live in Florida, they're just useless dead-weight.

  3. the systems are useful.  if you accelerate or turn on ice, it does not matter how much power you have, you are going to slide because of the weight of the car.  Tires make a huge difference too.  It also depends on how hard you drive your car in adverse conditions.  I would get the systems.
