Question:

Does Vermouth have sulfites in it?

I want to try a martini, but I hear that Vermouth is sort of related to wine. I'm allergic to sulfites which are common in wines. Can anyone tell me if Vermouth has sulfites in it?

  1. Well, most people like their martinis as dry as possible. Meaning they want barely any vermouth at all.

How about you just drink gin? :P

  2. All wines (and yes, vermouth is considered a wine, albeit a fortified one) have sulfites in them...it is just a natural part of the growing process of any organic material.

There is no sulfite-free wine, and won't be until a chemical process is developed that will remove them.  Your best bet is to find a wine whose viniculturalist buys (or grows) organic grapes, and watch the wineries that dump sulphur into their wines (usually the trait of crappy wine, trying to preserve and stabilize it as long as possible).

If you really want to add vermouth to your martini (and btw, bless you for drinking a REAL martini, not the sodapop "martinis" that they have now), try King Eider from Duckhorn Vineyards.

    Hope this helps.
