Question:

Does WaMu ask for proof of age?

Hey I'm 15 and I want to open an account with WaMu. I know that my parent will have to sign on with me, but I want a debit card as well as a checking account. With WaMu I hear you have to be 16 to get a debit card. Do they ask for proof of age? Could I just say I'm 16 and give them my school I.D.?

I live in California if that makes any difference.

  1. actually at wamu you have to be 18 to get a debit card, and YES you need proof of your age.  Plus in most cases if you are under 18 you can only open a savings account, sometimes with parents as co-owners of the account they may let you open a checking account but they would not give you a debit card, but they could issue one to the co-owner of the account if they were over 18(ie your parents)

  2. Yeah, they need proof. You need your birthdate and SSN to open up an account. You would need your state ID or driver's license for identification - your school ID wouldn't work.
