What you're asking is "is wood a good thermoinsulator", and the answer to that is yes.  Neither heat nor cold pass through wood very easily.  The structure of wood is complex compared to that of a metal, and absorbs heat or cold rather than passing it along.  There is a large amount of water in wood which has a very high heat capacity, the ability to "hold on to" heat or cold, and not change its temperature easily.
