Question:

Does Yahoo Groups ever ask for your credit card info during the sign-up process for age verification purposes?

I was signing up for a yahoo groups account, and the second step asked for my credit card for age verification purposes. It said I would not be billed, and my yahoo groups account became active.

Was I just scammed? I feel incredibly stupid, but it was right there in the yahoo groups sign-up process. I looked at the URL during the sign-up process and it was the yahoo URL, I didn't click through from an e-mail or anything. Went straight to yahoo groups, clicked to create an account, the first screen was my personal info, second screen was a credit-card age verification screen, then my account was created.

Is this normal?

  1. you must had clicked for Yahoo Mail Plus, which has a fee.

there is Yahoo free mail, which wouldn't had asked for a credit card.

there is no such thing as a Yahoo groups account- but you need a Yahoo account in order to create a group

  2. Uh oh. I don't think that's good. Contact your credit card company and ask for another card with another number.
