  1. Good question, I for one do not know the answer to it except you will always find some people trying to get something for nothing.  Many do not see this as stealing, even though it most certainly is stealing unless you have written permission.

Now do not be too hasty to judge and some of these file sharing programs have the express permission to share files because they give the owners a share of the advertising revenue.  The huge class action lawsuit against Napster settled that for most.

In other words, Limewire might be legal.  But do not hold me to it as I did not examine their bonafides neither am I a lawyer.  There is also a free service for downloading books too on the net that has the permission of the authors.  I looked for the links but it is late and I am going to sleep now.  Sorry, but if you do a search, you should find something.  I do believe just the fact that Limewire is now provided on some new computers should be proof it is a legal service now.

  2. Yahoo states quite clearly that asking for and posting links to illegal downloads is a violation. They also have consistently suspended accounts for doing this -- when they are reported. That is the problem. They must be reported. Over and over. Until folks get the message.

Many people that ask for these or post them really are too young to understand the implications and repurcussions of what they are doing. They think that the artists get 'enough' money for all their sales and this 'little bit' of pirating will not hurt them. Others just don't care, as they don't care about many so-called victimless laws and crimes -- or any other kinds of laws, perhaps.

The YA team practices due diligence as they can, but it really is up to the users here to help them out as much as we can with this.

  3. no. they cant really do anything to you. just dont use limewire or you might get spywear put in your computer which is not good.

  4. No. Technically nothing illegal has been done at that point.
