Hi

I am thinking about advertising my small website/graphic design business with Yell.com, but of course its £650+ a year will it get me the level of work I need or would £650 be spent better elsewhere.

Anyone have experience with yell.com ?

Thanks

  1. You could spend your £650 more effectively.  Yell.com is all right for very generalist advertising but it's hard to narrow it down to target your ideal customers.  You can do quite a bit with the bullets you put in the ad but the success of the ad is still dependent on your prospects using Yell in the first place.

Think about who your ideal customers are and spend time and money pursuing them.  For example, if your target is small businesses in the consultancy sector, go along to some networking events.  You'll meet your prospects there and other people at the event will also have those kinds of people in their networks.

Maybe your target is professional photographers.  Write a newsworthy article for the photographic press on the ways that photographers can use their websites to grow their customer spend - things like on-line albums etc.

We've used Yell.com for many years.  When we first used it in 2000 we noticed an appreciable growth in business.  Now, however, the majority of "enquiries" we get from it are from people trying to sell us things.  Our renewal date is at the end of this year and we'll be dropping at least one of the categories we advertise in, if not more.

So, the short answer is - save your money for more targeted marketing.

    Good luck!
