  1. I shoot my .17 (is a marlin with a bull barrel) probably 5 to 15 time per day and have seen zero issues with accuracy or barrel burn out, like you would on a .22-250.  IMHO, there's just not enough powder in the .17 to kill the barrel, its essentially a necked down .22 magnum, and I've never heard of one of those burning out either.

  2. No, not to worry.*

  3. first to the guy that is refering to his hmr the question is about the 17 rem which is necked down 222, but to answer the question, any ultra fast rounds like 17 rem 204 ruger 22250 220swit will all burn out barrel quicker than the likes of the 223 222, heat is the biggest killer for barrels, if you want 17rem go bull barrel, but if your checking that out give the 204 ruger a look, about the same velocity and 20cal proj, at about 40-45 grains, about 15% more powder than the 223. perfect for foxes, the 17 rem has had its day in my opinion, i have a 222mag basically a 223 and the old man has 17 rem, the 222 mag kills the 17rem, maby hes just old but i can get head shots easy at 250 and he just has to settle for gut shot at that distance, if you just want a good serviceable all round that wont die just go 223, with varmint or bull barrel. thats what i would do
